2024 has officially clocked out, and in this special blog, we reflect on a year of remarkable growth, innovation, and impact for Bodyguard.
This past year, we celebrated successes, reached new milestones, overcame challenges and navigated change together. We kept pushing forward, striving as always to exceed customer expectations and deliver excellence. Through it all, one thing remained constant: our unwavering commitment to creating safer online spaces.
We also added a hefty haul of trophies to our awards cabinet, scooping the Trusted AI Solution gong at the Hub France IA awards, the Citizen Action and Civic Tech prize at the Tech for Good Awards, and the Jury Prize at the 2024 CMA CGM Startup Awards.
None of this would be possible without the collaboration, trust and support of our customers, partners and the Bodyguard team. By choosing Bodyguard to protect their online spaces, our customers make a commendable commitment to stamping out online toxicity and understanding their communities.
As we embark on the new year, we’re confident that Bodyguard is the best it has ever been, and that there is so much more to come.
Don’t just take our word for it. Dive into Bodyguard’s year wrapped and discover what we delivered in 2024 that made it an unforgettable year of impact, innovation and inspiration.
Bodyguard’s solution underwent a major glow up in 2024, with 11 new product updates.
We made continuous improvements to our analytics and reporting capabilities, and launched Alerting: our additional safety net to mitigate online crises with real-time alerts to unusual activity.
Plus, we introduced Post Scoring, our crystal ball which gives users a glimpse into the future and generates a toxicity risk score for social media posts, before they’re published.
Our boldest move in 2024 and quite simply a game changer, Audience Intelligence is one of the most exciting updates to Bodyguard since our inception.
Audience Intelligence harnesses the power of AI and Bodyguard’s millions of data points to empower users to turn audience data into powerful, actionable intelligence.
How does it work? A nifty button in the Bodyguard dashboard lets users ask a number of pre-defined questions, which are tailored to their industry, to get detailed audience insights on a range of subjects by analyzing the comments left on their social media and other online platforms.
From trending topics to the people most associated with their organization, teams get instant, reliable feedback straight from their audience. For even more granular insights, we created the keyword search functionality. This allows users to search for specific keywords, for any platform or time period, and get instant insights into the conversations and messages surrounding the term.
Audience Intelligence is truly a revolution in audience understanding, but we’ve leveled-up the feature by enabling users to ask their own questions, so teams can access immediate audience feedback based on the unique needs of their organization.
In 2025, we’ll be sharing more about Audience Intelligence, with exciting webinars, demos and lots of useful content. Stay tuned!
Our users are at the centre of every product update and new feature.
Since day one, we’ve strived to create a platform that is easy and intuitive, removing the complexity of social media moderation and data analysis. 2024 was no exception. Our team dedicated themselves to refreshing our dashboard and adding sophisticated new features that pack even more power into the platform, whilst making sure it’s as accessible as ever. Here’s how they did it:
For Bodyguard customers facing a social media crisis, our Crisis Mode feature was a lifesaver in 2024. In just one click, we made it possible for users to turn on Crisis Mode within our dashboard, and take proactive control of any online crisis from start to finish.
From the moment Crisis Mode is activated, affected customers receive personalized support from Bodyguard: custom moderation rules created to fit the crisis, a human task force of moderators mobilized to monitor and take action on comments, and ongoing support from the Bodyguard team. Our unrivaled moderation and Alerting feature make the risk of a crisis low for Bodyguard clients. But, if the worst case scenario happens, Crisis Mode puts users back in the driving seat.
Users can now search for a specific keyword across messages, posts and authors, with instant results. This allows monitoring of sensitive topics, trend and threat detection, as well as letting users evaluate the reach and impact of certain keywords in their community.
In 2024, we wanted to empower social media teams to leverage their platforms in more effective and valuable ways. In autumn, we launched Campaign Management: a useful new feature that lets users create campaigns and group related posts across social channels, to easily monitor and compare their performance. With a centralized view of all posts associated with a campaign and data-driven insights, Bodyguard users can now track key metrics across different channels and analyze campaign impact over individual posts, all in one place.
LinkedIn is a major social platform for many Bodyguard users. In 2024, we extended our moderation to include LinkedIn, so customers with B2B markets could rest assured knowing posts on the platform were monitored 24/7. Later in the year, we enhanced our coverage further to include dark posts; posts that target specific audiences but aren’t published on a business’ page or in global newsfeeds.
For many Bodyguard customers, protecting their reputation online is the number one priority. Last year, we created a failsafe, additional safety net that would ensure even potential threats to their reputation are flagged and mitigated, before they can escalate.
Bodyguard Alerting is exactly as it sounds. Users are alerted by email, and in real time, when Bodyguard detects unusual activity in their online spaces. It could be a spike in the volume of comments, or an increase in positive or toxic content. Whatever the unusual activity, if Bodyguard senses an anomaly, our users are notified immediately, so they can take action.
Putting invaluable insights in the hands of our users is always a priority for Bodyguard. In 2024, we did this by creating X Monitoring. This handy functionality lets Bodyguard users monitor content on X, without the need for account credentials. Now, teams can track sensitive topics and keywords, watch activity on specific accounts and track industry trends and competitor activity on the platform, for ongoing visibility of the X content that’s most relevant to them.
Moderation is the cornerstone of Bodyguard: our OG functionality which is still the most valuable tool for many of our customers.
Bodyguard has always been a trailblazer in social media moderation, setting new industry standards and continuously raising the bar for quality, accuracy and speed. In 2024, we elevated our moderation further, with the addition of new, much-needed, general and custom content classifications, including sexting, boycott, politics, reputation harm, animal-wellbeing and pedophilia reference.
Last year, we also took steps to raise the quality of our moderation even further, with our the addition of our Smart Moderation Console. The Smart Moderation Console provides human oversight and enhanced quality control of our content moderation by overseeing the decisions of our automated tech and correcting any errors, and refining our AI models to reduced false positives and negatives. The Smart Moderation Console goes hand in hand with our crisis management tools, letting our team react faster to crises where human intervention is required. The result? Our users have even more trust in Bodyguard’s accuracy and effectiveness.
Throughout 2025, we’ll continue to adapt to the ever-evolving social media landscape and our clients’ changing needs.
Last year, we also introduced new GDPR-compliant data retention policies to give our customers complete peace of mind that their data is treated in accordance with EU-wide regulations.
It’s easy to say we made an indelible impact on the organizations we worked with last year, but actions speak louder than words.
Content moderation produces a goldmine of data, not just for our clients, but for us too. This data illustrates Bodyguard’s impact and showcases the difference we made for our clients throughout the year. Check out these standout highlights from 2024:
Our customers were our biggest advocates last year, and they had plenty of good things to say about Bodyguard.
The Head of Brand Performance at one of the world’s most renowned luxury fashion houses shared, “Moderation data is a goldmine. We are able to better capture our audience sentiment during key moments, such as fashion shows. Thanks to the usage of the LLM, Bodyguard analysts are providing insights that we were not able to get before.”
In the world of sport, Juventus Football Club said: “In the 2023/24 season, we used Bodyguard to immediately remove over 220,000 comments on our accounts, which had passed the filters of social media platforms.”
You can read more feedback in our customer success stories.
In 2024 we reached new milestones (including more than 1 billion messages moderated in December!), signed exciting deals and pushed boundaries in innovation. But It wasn’t without its hurdles. Challenges are an inevitable part of growth, and for Bodyguard, they provide opportunities to adapt, improve, and emerge stronger.
As the leader in content moderation and monitoring, we believe excellence is a journey, not a destination. The lessons we learned last year will fuel our ambitions and help us deliver even greater value to our customers in 2025.
Here’s a glimpse at some of the challenges we faced—and how we turned them into stepping stones for success:
In a year marked by international conflicts, global sporting events, and historic election campaigns, Bodyguard moderated 350% more comments than in 2023. The huge increase made it a challenge to maintain accuracy across the 45 languages we moderate and various contexts, but we did it! We increased our capacity to analyze over 1,000 comments per second (six times the previous volume) and combined continuous AI training with linguistic updates to detect new types of content.
Like the diverse communities we protect online, the Bodyguard team is an international bunch. Bodyguard clients span the globe and work in multiple languages; so in 2024, we supported more emerging markets with unique languages, dialects and cultural norms. We also made notable technical investments so that our infrastructure was reliable across regions, whilst maintaining low latency.
It took agility and vigilance to successfully navigate the changing global privacy regulations in 2024. With cross-team collaboration and legal expertise, we implemented a robust data retention policy to comply with regulations like GDPR, and maintained operational efficiency.
Harmful online behaviours changed quickly last year. Like a game of cat and mouse, it was tricky to keep up with new methods of exploitation, covert signals, and deceptive content; but we did it. Through constant AI retraining and with the help of our expert linguists, we stayed one step ahead of the unpredictable landscape.
Early-stage feedback from users was pivotal in helping us refine features like Audience Intelligence. By actively listening and acting on feedback, we ensured our tools delivered the functionality users needed.
In 2024, we took an agile approach to product development, releasing first versions of our new features, such as Audience Intelligence, as quickly as possible and iterating based on their use. This meant our users benefited from the new features sooner, and we could make updates and improvements based on usage and feedback, without delaying broader innovation.
By keeping our ear to the ground and anticipating regulatory changes, we stayed ahead of compliance requirements, avoided disruption for users, and reaffirmed our credibility as a trustworthy and compliant provider.
Giving our users sustained value was the goal in 2024. We invested heavily in improving autonomy, with more autonomous tools like report generation and source management. This reduced the manual workload for users significantly, giving them more power at their fingertips. Plus, we future-proofed our solution further, by introducing more features that address emerging threats.
We’re thrilled to unveil some exciting updates and enhancements that are set to roll out this year. These updates are designed to improve usability, provide more actionable insights, and give users greater control over their experience.
Our new roles and permissions system introduces a flexible structure for managing user access. From Super Admins with full access to view-only users, organizations can assign roles based on their team’s specific needs. This will ensure data security and streamline workflows by limiting access where needed.
In 2025, we’re taking Audience Intelligence to the next level. This is the ultimate tool for understanding and engaging with your community, and tapping into actionable, reliable insights. Whether it’s uncovering the most frequent audience questions or pinpointing key trends, this enhanced feature empowers users to make data-driven decisions with confidence.
What’s coming up in Audience Intelligence
Our updates have been carefully planned to put our customers in control. Together, they allow teams to unlock hidden insights, take proactive measures around business strategies and audience expectations, and foster stronger relationships with their communities.
Packed full of exciting enhancements, our 2025 Audience Intelligence roadmap will continue to make audience understanding effortless, and provide insights our clients can act on to drive impactful change. Stay tuned for more details and get ready to discover a smarter, more intuitive way to connect with online audiences!
As part of our wider 2025 product roadmap, we’re also introducing:
Japanese moderation support: We’re growing our linguistic capabilities to include moderation in Japanese, so Bodyguard’s round-the-clock protection will cover even more communities.
Expanded email alerts: To help organizations stay ahead of potential crises and opportunities for engagement, we’re expanding our Alerting feature to introduce email alerts for unusual activity in general classifications. This feature means teams can respond quickly to unexpected spikes in activity or anomalies relating to a certain classification.
Of course, our product development won’t end there: whenever we identify an opportunity for improvement in 2025, you can be sure we’ll seize it!
We've got your back!
